We protect immigrant children, families, and other refugees by providing access to high-quality, pro bono legal representation.
Legal representation is the single most important factor in predicting whether an asylum-seeking family will prevail in its immigration proceedings. Without legal representation, an asylum-seeking family’s fate is overwhelmingly predetermined—deportation, often within days—regardless of the underlying humanitarian disaster at home. Yet, very few families can afford to hire an attorney. BUT! Through the support of people like you, ALDEA PJC has been able to establish multiple programs to provide relief to those in need.
Aldea PJC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Reading, PA, that protects the rights of underserved immigrant children, families, and other refugees, by providing all with access to high-quality, pro bono legal representation.
Here is just some of what your support has helped accomplish this year:
- By the end of 2017, ALDEA PJC will have helped over 300 families detained at the Berks County Residential Facility in Leesport, PA, escape the fetters of immigration detention—including four families who had been detained for over eighteen months.
- In April 2017, ALDEA PJC filed a class action lawsuit against Jeff Sessions, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and other government entities on behalf of children with Special Immigrant Juvenile status—a form of humanitarian protection for certain abused, neglected, or abandoned undocumented children.
In all likelihood, next year will be busier! Where we go from here is up to you! The continued support of community members like you is essential to ALDEA PJC’s ability to provide relief to those in need, improve social welfare, promote human rights, and empower the community. A lack of funding will decrease the availability of ALDEA PJC’s services, leading to the denial of fairness and equal access to justice for some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
